Did you know that lactose free milk also comes from cows? If not, you are not alone. New England Patriots wide receiver Deion Branch just recently found this out. In conjunction with the NFL and the Fuel Up to Play 60 initiative – aimed at educating lactose intolerant individuals that they too have choices to obtain the immense nutrition dairy products offer – he made a hysterical video that allows audiences to learn, right along with him, how the dairy industry produces lactose free products, like Lactaid, that are nutrient packed, for a healthy, balanced diet.
But keeping up with your dairy nutrients is no joke. Americans are recommended to build a healthy diet based on a nutrient model available at MyPlate.gov, which includes nutrient-rich foods from the five basic food groups, including three dairy servings from the Dairy group. Because 25 million Americans are lactose intolerant, these individuals often miss this minimum intake of Dairy nutrients, believing there is no other choice. But as Deion Branch and many others have learned, there are great, dairy based alternatives to lactose that can provide the essential calcium, protein, potassium, and Vitamins A and D that dairy products have to offer.
The NFL is getting down with dairy. You should too!
